Every month, Ovie dedicates a specialty sandwich to a local charity that does amazing work. During August, our Charity of the Month is The Garden of the Phoenix Foundation, and are featuring Smoked Turkey-Avocado Sandwich with house cured bacon, basil aioli, beefsteak tomato & whole wheat bread. A portion of the proceeds from every sandwich sold will go to this amazing foundation.
The Garden of the Phoenix Foundation was established in 2009 as a not-for-profit organization in order to partner with the Chicago Park District. Their goal is to ensure that the Garden of the Phoenix is maintained and enhanced as an extraordinary public space for all visitors to learn about Japan, as well as experience Japanese culture, while enjoying a place of great historical significance and natural beauty.
The Garden of the Phoenix is located in Jackson Park, consisting of the Phoenix Pavilion and the Osaka Japanese Garden. Partially built during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition by Frederick Law Olmsted, America’s foremost landscape architect and the chief of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition’s landscape design, this garden holds both history and culture that is rooted in Chicago. Last year, 120 cherry blossom trees in honor of the 120th anniversary of the garden & US-Japan relations in Chicago, adding even more beauty and grace to this already stunning park.
